Humana Military Healthcare Services, Inc. (HMHS), a subsidiary of Humana Inc., is headquartered in Louisville, KY. Since July 1, 1996, HMHS has been a Department of Defense contractor for the administration of the TRICARE program. In August 2003, HMHS began providing health benefits support and services to approximately 2.8 million active duty and retired military and their eligible family members in the 10-state South Region. In addition, HMHS, under a separate DoD contract, has provided health care services and support for active duty service members and their families located in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, since February 2004.

In 2007, HMHS began two subsidiaries to complement its DoD business initiatives by acquiring DefenseWeb®, a company focused on technology, and forming Humana Veterans Healthcare Services, Inc., a subsidiary of Humana Military Healthcare Services, Inc. devoted to providing a full range of health solutions for the eligible veteran population.
